Are there any creditors that will not work with credit counseling service. I am concerned with my loan with Beneficial (HSBC) and CitiFianancial. Has anyone had issues with these and credit counseling programs?

We have 3 credit cards, all maxed to and over the limit. I am consulting a credit counseling service but my husband doesn’t want it to ruin our credit. I personally think it will get us out of debt A LOT quicker and we’re not filing bankruptcy. It may give us a blemish on our credit. But I think it’s worth it.

I have about $5500 in debt and I would like to consolidate them thru the credit counseling agencies. I am unable to get approved for a personal loan or a consolidation loan and so this is my last resort. I know that this will show up on my credit, but hey I figure that’s life and I’m not going to let it get to me. So if you could help out in letting me know the best credit counseling agency to go to that would be great thanks!!!!

These are the people who make your credit card payments (or at least suspend payment) in case of illness or layoff for a percentage of your account balance. Are they as under-capitalized as the mortgage insurers? Can they handle the rapidly increasing massive layoffs? If not, then what?

My sister owes about altogether $32,000. She has gotten credit counceling through American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) and she owes $23,000when they consalidated 3 credit cards. She owes a bank loan of $2,000. She owes another credit card $2300, She owes Sears $3200 and Mervyns $700. My dad’s offered to put all of it on his credit card but I am afraid she will never be able to pay that amount. She makes $23,000 a year and claims she cant find another higher paying job. Can she file for bankruptcy and if she does, what exactly does he need to do?
